Is 9:1-7; Ps 34:1-8, 15-22; Mt 21:28-32

The people walking in darkness
Have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.   Isaiah 9:2

Out of the three pieces of scripture given to me,Isaiah 9:1-7 stood out most, in particularly verse two which is above. I started at a brand new high school this year, LCI, and after going to a Christian school for the past nine years, it was a big jump. Going from a school of about two hundred kids to one with nearly fifteen hundred is, to say the least, overwhelming. But, I rather quickly began to make friends. Now, being almost done with the first semester, it’s not so overwhelming. It’s definitely still big (six floors is too many!) but I like it. Being in a school where not everyone is a Christian I have learned to spot ones that are, and the difference relates to this scripture.

I can see what they do or do not believe in their eyes. Most Christians will have light reflecting into their eyes and for some reason, you can see it come back out. It reflects in the irises. It adds a sort of happiness to their face, even if they aren’t fully happy. But, the kids who have no faith, I find that their eyes don’t have as much light in them. Just a dark pupil trying to make it to their fourth period classroom. But that’s where we as Christians come into the picture.

We have our own, special light. Years ago he was born in a manger, but was the light of the world and still is. The best part about him is that he encourages us to share. Share this little light of yours to all. And always follow your light, like how the wise men followed the actual physical light, the star of Bethlehem. In a way, it’s all connected.

So bring that one friend to church. They are a candle and we, the followers of Christ the light, are the matches.
